Access for maintenance: bridging installation and operation

Why access space, labelling and documents provided at installation make later maintenance easier.

Equipment you cannot reach does not get serviced. Access has to be planned during installation, not after it.

Enough space around equipment

Leave room in front of and around the equipment to open it, replace parts and inspect it; the manufacturer’s manual gives the required size.

Valves and isolation points

Isolation valves and measuring points should sit where they can be reached without special tools.

Access panels

Provide panels behind ceilings and walls at joints and equipment that need inspection.

Labels and documents

Label pipe routes and equipment, and keep the drawings in line with the final condition.

Operator feedback

Asking the maintenance team before the layout is final is the best way to find access problems.
